Today we thank you, O God, for the ability to go grocery shopping without having to put on pants. Technology is weird. Amen.

Today we thank you, O God, that every story has two sides. And especially that when the side of the oppressed is robbed of their voice, you raise up prophets to speak for them. Today, especially, I think of the Rev. Dr. Alex Awad, though there are many others. Their voice speaks for you. Amen.

Today we give you thanks, O God, for the chance to grade students’ papers. Well, no. Not so much the grading. But the reading, oh, that I give you thanks for. They teach me so much about your Word. Amen.

Today we thank you, O God, for people whose eyes glow with joy when talking about their faith—Christian, Muslim, or something else. The human heart can’t help but love you, however the mind knows you. Amen.

Today we thank you, O God, for all the miserable bus stations, busses, airports, food vendors, airplanes, and taxis that got me here safely. Because they got me here safely. And I like it here. Amen.

Today we thank you, O God, for a Hong Kong breakfast of cabbage and noodles with people who speak a language I do not know. It makes me long for the familiarity of Malaysia. Amen.
